Lila Yoga

About

Why this exists.

Yoga usually arrives in fragments: a pose here, a borrowed Sanskrit word there, a line quoted in class with no way to check where it came from. The tradition deserves better than fragments, and so do you. This site is a front door: one calm place to find out what yoga actually is, from the texts that defined it.

What it’s for

Two things. If you are new, it gives you a real first understanding of yoga: where it comes from, what it is actually about, and how to start. If you already practice, it is a place to build a foundation between classes, so the words you hear on the mat connect to the ideas they came from.

How it works

Everything here traces back to the source texts. Each verse is shown in the original Sanskrit, taken from scholarly e-texts, alongside published translations credited by translator and year. When a page makes a claim, it cites a verse you can open and read for yourself. Nothing is quoted from memory, and nothing is invented.

Where we add context the texts themselves cannot supply, like modern scholarship on dates and history, it is labeled as modern context, not passed off as scripture. Where a plain-language explanation was drafted with AI assistance, it says so, and it stays marked until a human has reviewed it. The honest label is part of the method.

What it isn’t

Not a replacement for a teacher, a class, or a practice of your own. Yoga has always been handed from person to person; this site is a companion to that, not a substitute. Read a little, practice a little, bring what you find back to the mat.

The texts

4 root texts, held in 12 corpus layers of Sanskrit, translation, and plain-language gloss.
