Ashtanga
aṣṭāṅgaLiterally "eight limbs." Also the name of a vigorous modern practice style, which is a different thing.
The word comes from one line of the Yoga Sutras, the line that lays out yoga's whole map:
The eight limbs named in order: restraints, observances, posture, breath regulation, sense-withdrawal, concentration, meditation, absorption. One path, described from the outside in.
“Yama, Niyama, Āsana, Prānāyāma, Pratyāhāra, Dhāranā, Dhyāna, and Samādhi are the eight limbs of Yoga.”
The original Sanskrit

Restraint, observance, posture, breath, withdrawal, attention, contemplation, absorption. Posture is one limb of eight, which is worth remembering in a culture that photographs only the third.
